Job Summary

The VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transportation Coordinator - Patient Care to join our team. As a key member of our transportation department, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of patients to and from medical facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of vehicles, including emergency vehicles, patient transport buses/vans, and wheelchair vans, to transport patients to and from medical facilities.
  • Drive predetermined and/or scheduled routes or special runs, ensuring timely arrival and departure of patients.
  • Check identification cards to ensure authorization of passengers as required.
  • Use mobile data computers (MDCs) to track and record transportation activities, including patient information and vehicle maintenance.
  • Load and unload patients, medical supplies, and equipment, ensuring safe and secure transportation.
  • Perform operator inspection checklists and maintain records of vehicle maintenance and accidents.
  • Participate in service safety activities and attend scheduled safety trainings as directed by supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to pass a VA physical and adhere to all VA and DOT drug and alcohol testing and guidelines.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound judgments in emergency situations.
  • Must be able to lift and move patients, medical supplies, and equipment as needed.

Work is performed in a variety of settings, including medical facilities, patient homes, and transportation vehicles.
