Job Overview

GENERAL PURPOSE
The Senior Family Services Specialist - General Protective Services - Intake is a full-time advanced professional role responsible for delivering a comprehensive range of social services to families requiring general protective services assessments.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This position reports directly to the County Casework Supervisor for General Protective Services Intake.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This role may involve leading professional social services staff and supervising paraprofessionals and clerical personnel.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide casework services to families, including assessments to identify issues contributing to neglect and develop actionable plans.
2. Evaluate child safety and coordinate service provision using family, school, and community resources.
3. Make appropriate referrals to community agencies and follow up on client needs.
4. Conduct phone and on-site counseling for children and youth-related issues.
5. Prepare case documentation, including summaries, court petitions, and reports as required by regulations and agency policies.
6. Testify in various court settings as necessary.
7. Maintain accurate case records and document client service utilization.
8. Arrange and supervise parental visits for children placed outside their homes.
9. Participate in case reviews and communicate emergent situations to supervisors.
10. Engage in professional development through seminars and training.
11. Mentor new staff and assist in challenging case situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Two years of experience as a Caseworker 2; or a bachelor's degree in a related field with three years of professional social casework experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of laws and regulations governing child welfare programs, social case management principles, and community resources. Ability to establish effective relationships with clients, families, and community agencies, and to analyze and evaluate program operations.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Telephone, personal computer, calculator, and other office equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to walk, sit, talk, and hear. Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Moderately quiet office environment with potential for varying noise levels in other settings.
