Position Overview:

The Senior Clinical Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for providing expert oversight and strategic direction to Clinical Laboratory Scientists within the department. This role encompasses the execution, analysis, and reporting of laboratory tests across various disciplines as stipulated by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). The incumbent will engage in complex testing processes, including but not limited to Hematology, Microbiology, and Clinical Chemistry, ensuring accurate data is generated for diagnostic purposes across diverse patient demographics. This position requires a high level of autonomy, critical thinking, and accountability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, as well as relevant state and federal regulations.
  • Exhibit proficiency in the responsibilities of a CLIA general supervisor, as outlined in regulatory guidelines.
  • Engage in direct patient interaction by providing essential information regarding laboratory tests, instructing on specimen collection, and gathering samples such as blood and other bodily fluids.
  • Propose innovative methodologies and support the supervisory team in the evaluation and implementation of new protocols.
  • Maintain and update existing procedure manuals, ensuring compliance with current standards and eliminating outdated practices.
  • Assist in assessing the performance of Clinical Laboratory Scientists and students within the department.
  • Participate in professional development activities to stay informed about advancements in the clinical laboratory sector.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing through presentations and discussions with colleagues regarding insights gained from professional development activities.
  • Collaborate with the supervisory team and clinical pathologists to address laboratory-related challenges and enhance communication across departments.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to Clinical Laboratory Scientists, Laboratory Assistants, and students as needed.
  • Support various laboratory functions as required, contributing to the overall efficiency of the department.
  • Assist the supervisory team in fulfilling leadership responsibilities and promoting excellence within the laboratory.
Qualifications:

Experience:
  • A minimum of two years of recent experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Demonstrated competence in a high-volume laboratory setting, with a strong understanding of laboratory principles and practices.
  • Experience with automated instrumentation and molecular-based procedures, as well as quality control protocols.
  • Familiarity with advanced methodologies such as electrophoresis, chromatography, and mass spectrometry.
  • Proficient in interpreting culture results and performing various bacteriological analyses.

Licensure and Certification:
  • Valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist License (California).
Additional Skills:
  • Ability to apply knowledge of laboratory principles and practices effectively.
