Job Title: Direct Support Instructor for Adults with Developmental Disabilities

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Instructor to join our team at Friends of Children with Special Needs. As a Direct Support Instructor, you will work closely with adults with developmental disabilities, providing support and guidance to help them achieve their goals and live fulfilling lives.

Responsibilities:

  1. Establish and maintain a supportive and trusting relationship with clients, including regular assigned clients.
  2. Respect clients' right to privacy and maintain confidentiality of information obtained.
  3. Provide continuous supervision to minimize health, safety, and other risks to clients' well-being.
  4. Learn Person-Centered methods and provide flexibility options for classes, activities, and social interactions.
  5. Learn and implement adaptive skills training curriculum, assisting participants in meeting their ISP goals and objectives.
  6. Learn and practice ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) and other behavior management techniques to support clients' behavior needs.
  7. Learn and practice CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) and keep everyone safe.
  8. Learn and perform First Aid and CPR, and other emergency services as appropriate.
  9. Transport assigned clients using your insured vehicle as needed.
  10. Attend staff meetings and training, parent check-in meetings, ISPs, and other assigned meetings.
  11. Provide appropriate care, supervision, and support to clients, including feeding, lifting/transferring, bowel, menses and bladder care, ambulation, and personal hygiene.
  12. Lead classes, prepare teaching materials, and document participants' daily progress reports and other data collections.
  13. Fulfill administrative paperwork in a timely manner, including BambooHR, mileage reimbursements, and other necessary tasks.
  14. Communicate effectively and proactively with the team regarding client issues and report to supervisors.
  15. Maintain an organized, safe, and clean environment.

Qualifications:

  1. Education: High school diploma or GED required.
  2. Experience: Experience with individuals with intellectual disabilities or related social service programs is a plus but not required.
  3. Professional Skills: Ability to speak, understand, read, and write in English, receive certifications in CPR/first aid and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), and Mandarin or Cantonese speaking is a plus but not required.
  4. Personal Traits: Reliability, patience, compassion, and kindness towards special needs individuals, ability to work effectively under direction, represent the organization in a professional manner, and get along with coworkers, participants, and collaborative partners.
