Position Summary: The HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of environmental control systems in various settings, including residential homes, retail stores, office buildings, and other commercial facilities. This role requires a solid understanding of refrigeration principles, pipefitting, and structural design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install compressor and condenser units on platforms or floors using hand tools.
  • Interpret blueprints and engineering specifications to execute installations.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis components.
  • Utilize portable metalworking tools and welding equipment for repairs.
  • Install evaporator units within chassis or air-duct systems using hand tools.
  • Measure and shape tubing to precise lengths and configurations.
  • Cut and thread pipes using machine-threading or hand-threading tools.
  • Connect tubing or pipes to refrigerating units using sleeves, couplings, or unions, and solder joints securely.
  • Employ a torch to form complete circuits for refrigerants.
  • Install expansion and discharge valves within circuits.
  • Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and ventilation fans to control panels.
  • Link control panels to power sources effectively.
  • Install air and water filters in completed systems.
  • Inject refrigerant into compressors for system testing and add Freon gas to achieve required operating pressures.
  • Monitor pressure and vacuum gauges, adjusting controls for optimal performance.
  • Test joints and connections for gas leaks using gauges or soap solutions.
  • Insulate pipes with batting and secure them with cement or wire bands.
  • Replace faulty breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to ensure proper operation of installed units.
  • Manage and operate Boiler and Chiller plants, maintaining system temperatures and equipment runtimes through the Building Automation System (BAS).
  • May install, repair, and service air conditioners, chillers, and cooling towers in various commercial settings.

Qualifications:

  • North American Technician Excellence (NATE) HVAC Service Technician Certification.
  • HVAC Excellence Professional Level Certification.
  • UA Star HVAC Mastery Certification.
  • Current Journeyman certification for union workers.
  • Stationary Engineers License as required by local regulations.
  • Refrigeration Operator License as required by local regulations.
