Role Summary: The primary responsibilities for this position encompass:

Engaging in library operations, assisting patrons with circulation tasks while ensuring a tidy and effective work environment.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on the evolving needs of the institution.

Compensation: $13.33/hr, adjusted according to experience and educational background.

Key Responsibilities:
This position is classified as Non-Exempt, making it eligible for compensatory or overtime pay as per FLSA regulations. The following duties are essential but not exhaustive; other tasks may be assigned as necessary.

  • Assist library patrons with circulation processes.
  • Manage check-in and check-out of materials.
  • Utilize Sirsi circulation software effectively.
  • Conduct item searches using WYLDcat.
  • Create library cards for patrons.
  • Process fines and maintain transaction records.
  • Organize and shelve materials appropriately.
  • Support technical services including materials processing, inventory management, and collection upkeep.
  • Perform additional tasks such as light typing, filing, data entry, maintaining patron supplies, operating office equipment, ensuring clear walkways, answering phones, and other administrative duties.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to comprehend and follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Proficient in delivering efficient and courteous customer service.
  • Capable of operating various office equipment including telephones, computers, printers, photocopiers, scanners, electric typewriters, telefax, and laminating machines; troubleshooting basic issues as needed.
  • Strong clerical skills, including accurate alphabetical and numerical filing, as well as light data entry and typing.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Regular movement around the assigned workspace and within various campus facilities is required.
  • Ability to lift, bend, stoop, and reach for materials on upper shelves.
  • Frequent use of personal computers, including keyboard and mouse operations, as well as monitoring a computer screen.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 35 pounds occasionally to fulfill essential job functions.
  • Specific vision abilities necessary for this role include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The work environment requires the mental agility to shift focus quickly due to interruptions, with the capacity to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Noise levels in the work environment are typically moderate, with occasional loud sounds.

Qualifications:
Minimum:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in customer service.
  • Proficient in computer use, including familiarity with MS Office applications, email, and the Internet.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with the SIRSI/DYNIX integrated library system.
