Job Summary:
The Windows Server Administrator is responsible for managing, maintaining, and supporting an organization's Windows Server infrastructure. This includes tasks such as installing, configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting Windows Server systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability. The administrator will also work on implementing security measures, performing regular system updates, and providing technical support to end-users.
Key Responsibilities:
- Server Administration and Maintenance:
- Install, configure, and manage Windows Server operating systems (e.g., Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022).
- Monitor server performance and ensure high availability and reliability.
- Apply patches, service packs, and updates to maintain a secure and up-to-date environment.
- Perform regular backups and restoration processes to ensure data integrity.
- Active Directory Management:
- Administer and manage Active Directory, Group Policies, and DNS/DHCP.
- Create and manage user accounts, security groups, and organizational units.
- Implement and maintain access control policies and permissions.
- Security and Compliance:
- Implement and maintain security measures such as firewalls, antivirus software, and encryption.
- Monitor and respond to security alerts and vulnerabilities.
- Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory security standards.
- Troubleshooting and Support:
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues related to Windows Server.
- Provide technical support for end-users and other IT staff.
- Collaborate with other IT teams to resolve complex technical problems.
- System Optimization and Performance Tuning:
- Optimize server configurations for maximum efficiency.
- Perform system performance analysis and tune the environment as needed.
- Monitor and maintain system logs, performance data, and error reports.
- Disaster Recovery and Backup Solutions:
- Develop and implement disaster recovery plans for Windows Server environments.
- Conduct regular testing of backup and restore procedures.
- Ensure data integrity and system uptime in the event of a disaster.
- Virtualization and Cloud Integration:
- Administer virtualized environments using technologies such as Hyper-V or VMware.
- Integrate on-premises servers with cloud services (e.g., Microsoft Azure).
- Manage virtual machines and storage solutions.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in Windows Server administration.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server operating systems (Windows Server 2016/2019/2022).
- Experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and file/print services.
- Familiarity with PowerShell scripting and automation.
- Knowledge of security practices and tools (e.g., firewalls, antivirus, encryption).
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Relevant certifications (such as Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Administrator or MCSE) are a plus.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with virtualization technologies (Hyper-V, VMware).
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS).
- Knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, routing, VLANs).
- Understanding of storage systems (SAN, NAS).
