Summary

As a Support Specialist, you will assist adults with developmental disabilities in their participation in Theatre Unlimited at the JCC. Rehearsals are scheduled on Sundays and Wednesdays at our Creve Coeur location. This is a part-time role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist adults with disabilities in Theatre Unlimited, which may involve making necessary accommodations for full participation, facilitating transitions or sensory breaks, and providing personal care support.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Director, Musical Director, and Life Enrichment Coordinator, as well as other team members, to ensure the successful execution of all Theatre Unlimited activities.
  • Document progress notes on designated participants' goals throughout the program.
  • Intervene appropriately in crisis situations related to behavior or health.
  • Observe and assess participant behavior, applying suitable behavior management techniques.
  • Ensure the physical and emotional wellbeing of all Theatre Unlimited participants at all times.
  • Identify and respond to opportunities for problem-solving.
  • Enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Provide excellent customer service and represent the JCC and Adult Day Center positively and professionally.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and assist with agency events as needed.
  • Adhere to ethical guidelines and confidentiality standards at all times.
  • Ensure participant attendance is recorded accurately and follow up with those who are absent.
  • Attend all rehearsals, performances, and required training sessions.
  • Work with the Director to ensure all materials are organized and returned after rehearsals and performances.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and transportation.
  • Follow all JCC policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; must be at least 18 years old.
  • Current college student or graduate in a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities is essential.
  • Understanding of the unique needs of individuals with disabilities is important.
  • Knowledge of common medical conditions and diagnoses among individuals with disabilities is beneficial.
  • Experience with individualized and person-centered goals is advantageous.
  • Must possess the ability to complete major tasks in the program.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers, parents, and individuals of varying skill levels.
  • Willingness to accept guidance and supervision.
  • Ability to assist adults in emergency situations.
  • Exhibit good character, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, patience, and self-control in a dynamic environment.
  • Teamwork mentality and strong interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification is required; training will be provided if necessary.
  • Must be registered and in good standing with the Family Care and Safety Registry.
