St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

The Department of Radiation Oncology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is seeking to expand its team of medical physicists by adding qualified faculty members. Appointments will be made to either a Clinician Scientist track or a Clinical track, depending on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and proven academic accomplishments.

The ideal candidate will possess a PhD in medical physics, engineering, or a related field of physical science. Certification in radiation oncology physics by ABR/ABMP or eligibility for such certification is highly preferred. Board certification is anticipated within three years of joining the team. Foreign equivalents for these qualifications will be evaluated if deemed acceptable.

This department is dedicated to the research and treatment of pediatric patients, with a particular focus on brain, musculoskeletal, and solid tumors. Candidates with a strong interest in proton therapy and the development of innovative methods for targeting, treatment planning, delivery, and outcome modeling will be given preference.

The department comprises a collaborative team of four clinician scientist faculty physicists, six clinical faculty physicists, three dosimetrists, and two medical physics assistants, along with dedicated engineering, information systems, and research personnel, including research scientists, post-doctoral fellows, and clinical research associates. It also includes a team of five full-time pediatric radiation oncologists supported by nursing, radiation therapy, and child life specialists.

Our Proton Therapy Center is recognized as the first facility globally dedicated exclusively to treating children with cancer. It features the Hitachi PROBEAT-V System, equipped with two gantry rooms and a fixed beam room, each with high-precision patient positioning and volumetric CBCT image-guidance systems. Additionally, video-based surface image guidance is available. The department encompasses 45,000 square feet of clinical space, including a dedicated clinic, treatment planning, therapy, and anesthesia support, and houses a Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator system with advanced imaging platforms.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is ranked among the top pediatric cancer hospitals and is committed to fostering the professional and career development of its faculty. Faculty members benefit from generous compensation packages, including retirement plans, professional development allowances, and tuition assistance.
