About the Role:
Tbwa Chiat/Day Inc is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety Consultant specializing in Biosafety to enhance our Professional Services team. This role requires a solid grasp of EHS principles, challenges, and opportunities to address unmet needs for our clients while ensuring their utmost satisfaction.
The primary responsibility of the EHS Consultant is to safeguard the health of client personnel, contractors, and customers, while also protecting the surrounding environment. The consultant will conduct thorough inspections and evaluations of work environments, equipment, and processes to ensure adherence to safety regulations and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Possess in-depth knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations related to the Center for Disease Control Prevention (CDC) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) guidelines concerning biosafety, especially regarding infectious agents and recombinant DNA.
- Effectively apply biosafety concepts, including the establishment of containment levels for various laboratory and research applications.
- Demonstrate expertise in recombinant DNA technology, viral vectors, and biohazard management.
- Exhibit strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to navigate diverse environments effectively.
- Participate in or manage Institutional Biosafety Committees.
- Conduct inspections of laboratories and other workspaces to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Perform workplace safety evaluations, assessing the use of personal protective equipment in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Identify potential health hazards and implement appropriate control measures.
- Assist in investigating incidents and injuries, providing recommendations for corrective actions.
- Engage with client personnel regarding safety issues and suggest necessary improvements.
- Facilitate routine EHS training sessions, including new employee orientation and hazard communication.
- Prepare reports, including accident documentation, and maintain required records for regulatory compliance.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in biosafety, environmental safety, or laboratory compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license and personal vehicle.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Experience in a BSL2/ABSL2 laboratory environment.
- Completion of professional development courses related to biosafety.
- Active membership in a national safety organization.
- Progress towards obtaining a professional safety certification.
