Position Overview

The Associate Vice President for Scholarships plays a crucial role in providing both programmatic and administrative support for various scholarship initiatives within the Foundation. This includes overseeing programmatic strategies, managing application processes, fostering relationships, and handling payment procedures. The AVP is expected to meet departmental timelines while striving to exceed the expectations of clients and partners.

This role requires a strong commitment to service, combined with a solid understanding of scholarship and financial aid processes and regulations. Building and maintaining relationships with educational institutions, community stakeholders, parents, and students is essential.

Additionally, the AVP will offer dedicated relationship management, grantmaking expertise, and strategic support for clients within the Foundation For Black Philanthropy (FFBP), a division aimed at promoting economic self-sufficiency, equal opportunity, leadership development, and cultural awareness within the Black community. The AVP will collaborate with the Vice President of Scholarships to enhance FFBP as an affiliate of the Foundation, focusing on managing service delivery for a diverse portfolio of philanthropic relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • General Duties:
    • Collaborate with the Vice President of Scholarships and the Philanthropic Advancement Team to identify, cultivate, solicit, steward, and manage relationships with potential fund donors.
    • Establish and maintain strong connections with educational institutions and college access networks.
    • Participate in Foundation-wide initiatives and provide assistance as needed across various departments.
    • Assist in the ongoing management and review of business processes, ensuring accuracy and identifying areas for improvement.
    • Engage proactively with key stakeholders to raise awareness and promote the Foundation's scholarship offerings.
  • Grants and Program Management:
    • In partnership with the Vice President and Scholarships Program Officer, implement and maintain scholarship programs, including drafting new scholarship agreements and monitoring existing ones.
    • Coordinate and support annual grantmaking cycles, including applicant consultations and relationship building with community groups.
    • Act as a liaison between applicants, scholarship recipients, and other stakeholders, providing essential information regarding scholarship programs.
    • Maintain comprehensive records in databases and generate reports as needed.
    • Ensure compliance with policies and IRS regulations regarding scholarship funds.
  • Board Support:
    • Provide guidance and support to volunteer scholarship and grants committees, coordinating efforts and planning meetings.
    • Offer comprehensive administrative support, including scheduling and organizing committee meetings, preparing necessary materials, and making recommendations regarding scholarship operations.
    • Assist in developing new scholarship funds by facilitating discussions with donors and drafting initial guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three years of relevant experience in a foundation, public sector, or service-oriented environment.
  • Familiarity with scholarship and college access programs is highly preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and database management systems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service excellence and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
