Description

The Facility Services department is in search of dedicated Safety and Security Specialists to oversee various Hennepin County sites. These professionals will engage in diverse roles to ensure a safe and secure atmosphere for all employees and visitors. Selected candidates will undergo a comprehensive, paid training program prior to being assigned to their designated locations, with ongoing training provided thereafter.

Compensation:
The salary range for this role is competitive, reflecting the responsibilities and qualifications required.

Work Environment:
Positions are available at multiple Hennepin County owned and leased sites. Work schedules will vary, covering days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Hennepin County offers a shift differential for night and weekend shifts, along with a generous annual uniform allowance that includes body armor, footwear, and necessary equipment.

Position Overview:
This is a full-time position that qualifies for benefits.
Internally, these roles are classified as Security Officers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for all personnel and visitors.
  • Respond to emergencies within county facilities, providing assistance for all types of hazards, including medical emergencies.
  • Maintain order among staff and guests; physically manage uncooperative individuals when necessary.
  • Utilize electronic and physical security systems, completing required documentation and logs.
  • Conduct entry screening and checkpoint control, including searches of individuals and belongings.
  • Deliver front-line customer service in challenging situations to both the public and employees.
  • Stay informed about laws, regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to security operations; assist in evaluating and implementing security measures for assigned facilities.
Qualifications:
  • One of the following:
    • Two or more years of full-time security experience in military, law enforcement, corrections, or industrial security.
    • Two years or more of college or technical coursework in a criminal justice discipline.
    • A combination of the above experience and education totaling two years.
  • Ability to successfully complete required training during the probationary period; obtain and maintain Emergency Medical Responder or Emergency Medical Technician certifications as mandated.
  • Willingness to work a fixed schedule that includes days, weekends, evenings, and overnight shifts.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and eligibility for a Hennepin County driver's permit.
  • Certification in Crisis Intervention Team (CIT).
  • Experience with computer programs related to security operations, including access control and incident report management.
  • Proficiency in de-escalating difficult situations with clients or the public.
Skills Required:
  • Ability to produce clear and detailed incident reports.
  • Effective communication skills, especially in high-pressure situations.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite and security software.
