Job Summary:
The Finance and Budget Assistant will provide support to the Deputy Controller/Finance Director in the Finance Division, Office of Programme Planning, Finance and Budget (OPPFB), Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the review, analysis, and preparation of the programme plan and its revisions, as well as providing support with respect to the finalization of cost estimates and budget proposals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the review, analysis, and preparation of the programme plan and its revisions.
- Provide support with respect to the finalization of cost estimates and budget proposals.
- Assist in the elaboration of resource requirements for budget submissions.
- Undertake research and provide support to the Deputy Controller/Finance Director with respect to budget reviews of relevant intergovernmental and expert bodies.
- Monitor expenditures and compare with approved budget.
- Prepare adjustments as necessary.
- Assist in the preparation of budget performance submissions and finalization of budget performance reports.
- Verify accuracy of input data.
- Co-ordinate with other finance and budget staff on related issues.
- Prepare requests to the Controller's Office and OUSG/DMSPC on budgetary and liquidity proposals.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of seven years of experience in finance, budget, accounting, administrative services or related area.
- Experience in the use of information technology programs related to spreadsheets, databases, and word processing.
- Experience in the use of enterprise resource planning systems (such as SAP) is desirable.
- Experience working with the United Nations or large international organization systems and procedures as they relate to the Financial Regulations, Rules, and procedures is desirable.
Language Requirements:
Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
