Job Summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is seeking a skilled Medical Assistant II to join our team. As a Medical Assistant II, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our healthcare team.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assist practitioners and other members of the healthcare team in providing patient care.
  • Perform a variety of patient care, technical, and administrative duties.
  • Coordinate outside lab results and notify patients of normal lab results.
  • Act as a preceptor/trainer for new staff members.
  • Assist with nurse triage and perform blood draws as directed.
  • Reinforce compliance in billing/coding and facilitate distribution of clinical contacts, schedules, and care management tools.
  • Monitor and assist with clinic flow, adjusting as needed to ensure efficient patient flow.
  • Request medical records from external/internal facilities and prepare them for provider review.
  • Collaborate with the clinic nursing supervisor to develop operational strategies and process improvements for the department/unit.

Requirements
  • Completion of a medical assistant program offered by a school accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Certified Medical Assistant in the State of Washington and familiarity with the State's conduct and standards of practice.
  • Surgical Technologist Registration in the State of Washington State and familiarity with the State's conduct and standards of practice.
  • Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course).
  • Willingness to participate in process improvement initiatives.
  • Proficient in email and word processing systems.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, complex healthcare environment.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and problem-solve.
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to follow direction and guidance.
  • Ability to recognize limitations and seek help.
  • Ability to identify learning needs and plan learning opportunities.
  • Ability to appropriately respond to emergencies or disasters per clinic protocol and scope of practice.
