Position Overview

As a key member of the healthcare team, the Registered Dietitian is responsible for the nutritional management of patients within designated units. This role involves planning, assessing, implementing, and evaluating individualized nutritional care plans. The Dietitian also plays a crucial role in menu adjustments and various nutrition-related tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mentor and train junior staff as needed.
  • Conduct interviews with patients and/or their families to gather nutritional histories, preferences, and document findings in medical records.
  • Perform comprehensive nutritional assessments, develop tailored care plans, and recommend nutrition strategies for physician review.
  • Advise on dietary modifications and supplemental feeding options for patients, ensuring the accuracy of diet orders in accordance with physician directives.
  • Provide nutritional education and counseling to patients and their families, aligned with prescribed dietary guidelines. Calculate nutrient content for tube feeding and dietary intake as directed by medical staff.
  • Assist in modifying patient menus based on preferences and contribute to the creation of standardized recipes, while overseeing food service personnel for proper food handling and portion control.
  • Design and deliver individual and group educational sessions, and refer clients to community resources as necessary. Actively participate in promoting wellness initiatives.
  • Establish effective communication channels regarding nutritional information within the program and the broader community.
  • Conduct in-service training for culinary, food service, and interdisciplinary teams on therapeutic diets and related subjects.
  • Engage in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities, including data collection and execution of related tasks as assigned.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as required. All duties listed are considered essential functions of the role under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is required.
Current Registered Dietitian Certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration is mandatory.
Certification as a Dietitian Nutritionist in New York State (CDN) may be required.
Advanced or specialized certifications may be necessary.
1-3 years of pertinent experience is essential.
