Classification: Bargaining; non-exempt

Supervisor: Circulation Services Manager or Designee

Core Responsibilities:

Circulation Clerks engage with the public, providing essential customer service in a busy library environment. This role encompasses a variety of standard circulation and clerical tasks utilizing the Library's integrated software. The position may be part-time or full-time, depending on library needs.

Key Duties:

  • Facilitates circulation and borrowing services for patrons, including check-ins, check-outs, holds, renewals, and sorting materials.
  • Interprets library loan policies and procedures for patrons.
  • Conducts searches and places holds for patrons, referring complex inquiries to appropriate staff.
  • Performs clerical tasks for various departments, including searching patron and circulation records.
  • Addresses patron issues related to fines, fees, and overdue inquiries, escalating complex matters as necessary.
  • Responds to patron inquiries in person and via phone, assisting with requests and material renewals.
  • Contacts patrons regarding holds and other issues as needed.
  • Operates cash register and provides fax services.
  • Processes audio-visual materials and equipment for circulation.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of work areas.
  • Participates in training and meetings as required.
  • May assist patrons with library equipment and resources.

Qualifications:

• Strong communication skills

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and perform routine tasks
• Familiarity with library methods and computerized systems
• Basic keyboarding skills
• Capacity to multitask in a dynamic environment
• Physical ability to handle library materials and equipment

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience in public service is preferred.

General Expectations:
All library employees are expected to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, maintain a positive attitude, and adhere to library policies while supporting the mission of the library in the community. Regular attendance and flexibility in scheduling are essential.
