The Day Care Council of New York Inc. is part of a collaborative consortium of four independent nonprofit organizations dedicated to providing comprehensive services to children, families, and child care providers throughout New York City. Our partners bring a wealth of expertise and focus on diverse communities, ensuring that we address the unique needs of the populations we serve.

Key Responsibilities

The Director of External Affairs will:

  • Act as the primary spokesperson for the organization, engaging with partners, funders, and government entities.
  • Meet with legislators to elevate the organization’s leadership role in early childhood education issues.
  • Collaborate with policy teams to educate stakeholders and produce op-eds, briefs, and case statements.
  • Work alongside marketing and policy teams to create and distribute public materials, including policy statements and annual reports.
  • Utilize research and evaluations from our programs to secure additional funding for expanded services.
  • Partner with development staff to identify and pursue funding opportunities and grants.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of five years of experience in early childhood education, human services, or the nonprofit sector.
  • Familiarity with New York City and State government operations in education and human services.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the early childhood education landscape, including its challenges and opportunities.
  • Proven project management experience and the ability to handle multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a track record of successful collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools and social media for advocacy purposes.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft messages for varied audiences.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; bilingual candidates are preferred.

Employment Details

This is a permanent, full-time position with a standard workweek of 35 hours. The salary for this role is set at $110,000, and the successful candidate will be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package.

Work Environment

While a hybrid work arrangement is currently in place, this position may require regular in-person engagements. The role will involve collaboration across various locations within the consortium.
