Dentons Sirote PC is in search of a Chief Financial Officer to manage all dimensions of the Firm's financial activities and operations. This high-level administrative position will report directly to the firm's President and Chief Operations Officer (COO), collaborating closely with the firm's General Counsel and other executives, including but not limited to the Human Resources Director, Information Technology Director, and Marketing and Business Development Director. The Chief Financial Officer will serve as the principal authority within the Finance Department, offering guidance, leadership, training, support, feedback, and motivation to department personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees and maintains accountability for the Firm's financial operations.
  • Enhances and safeguards the integrity of the Firm's financial practices, while managing relationships with financial institutions, auditors, and CPAs.
  • Assesses, implements, and bolsters the effectiveness of internal financial controls.
  • Assists in executing financial and business strategies that advance the Firm's strategic objectives, providing support and insights to the President and COO, Board of Directors, Practice Group Leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • Supervises and engages in cash management, budgeting, billing, collections, vendor payments, payroll, internal and external audits, and retirement plan matters.
  • Leads and directs a professional team of over 10 personnel.
  • Maximizes the efficiency of the Finance Department, ensuring precise management of daily transactions while consistently delivering outstanding service to shareholders, attorneys, and staff.
  • Recruits, trains, evaluates, and develops Finance Department personnel.
  • Prepares and disseminates monthly shareholder and financial reports, including variance analysis, KPIs, productivity metrics, and financial statements.
  • Collaborates across departments to create and implement profitability assessments, cost control measures, efficiency enhancements, and process improvements to achieve operational excellence.
  • Monitors industry trends and conducts benchmarking within the legal sector, providing insights, recommendations, and guidance to key stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Proven understanding of billing/accounting software systems; familiarity with legal industry software such as Aderant Expert is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, preferably in a client-focused professional services environment.
  • Prior management experience is preferred.
  • Strong technical accounting expertise, including knowledge of GAAP, tax obligations of governmental entities, and general auditing practices.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication abilities; comfortable presenting to groups of attorneys.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively, both independently and within teams, with a diverse range of individuals; excellent interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Proficient and adept in hands-on situations where tasks and analyses cannot be delegated.
  • Capable of initiating and managing significant change and participating in Process Improvement and Project Management initiatives.
  • Strong leadership and management capabilities.
