Job Description

Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A is seeking a highly skilled Senior Grants and Contracts Manager to join our team. As a key member of our development department, this individual will be responsible for effectively managing our institutional funders portfolio for government grants and contracts. With an annual budget of approximately $17 million, the successful candidate will be the lead writer on proposals and reports, ensuring compliance and correct administration of grants and contracts. Additionally, this person will collaborate with the development team to review government grant RFPs and programs, identify potential funding opportunities, develop proposal content and project ideas, and draft compelling language for proposals and reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the entire grants life cycle, from grant design, selection, start-up, implementation through to grant closure, ensuring compliance with internal procedures and donor regulations.
  • Maintain and grow Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A's government funding through strategic selection of prospective funds that align with our mission and community need.
  • Develop and lead initial drafting of persuasive letters of inquiries, grant proposals/applications, and other related materials, collaborating across the organization to develop narratives aligned with our mission, priorities, and capabilities.
  • Communicate regularly and coordinate closely with program staff and management to ensure all application and reporting materials are ready when needed and resolve open issues relating to monitoring grants, deliverables, reports, and proactively identifying performance issues.
  • Maintain the grant administration process utilizing Bonterra and other appropriate systems to manage and track current grants, proposals, budgets, and timely and accurate report submissions.
  • Monitor all government channels and online rating agencies to ensure our records are always up-to-date.
  • Support general fundraising activities, as needed, and provide support for the development of materials that demonstrate organizational/program accomplishments and impact, including the annual report.
  • Maintain a calendar and establish project plans for grants and manage timelines and deliverables to meet deadlines for grant submissions and reporting requirements.

Requirements:

  • At least six (6) + years of professional, institutional fundraising experience OR any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Extensive experience conceiving, developing, writing, and managing major institutional funding projects from multiple sources, including governmental agencies at the federal, state, and city levels.
  • Fast, engaging writer who can write for different audiences and funding opportunities and can take broad direction.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Passion for storytelling with the ability to transform technical and legal issues into broadly engaging, emotionally rooted, and informative narratives.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of funders and achieve financial results; knowledge of foundation and corporate giving is a must.
  • Initiative and independence, combined with the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented, with proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and delivering assignments within stringent deadlines.
  • Technologically savvy, with proficiency in donor CRMs, research systems, MS Office software, Adobe Publisher, Google products, and social media outlets.

Compensation and Benefits:

Annual salary $90,000-110,000, dependent on years of experience. Benefits highlights - employer paid health insurance; 27 days annual vacation, employer contribution to 401(k); and paid parental leave.
