Job Summary

Sycamores provides a range of equitable mental health and homeless services to diverse populations through various programs.

The agency focuses primarily on serving low-income, high-risk youth.

The Youth and Young Adult (YYA) Outreach and Navigation program is a critical component of the transitional aged youth (TAY) homeless response.

YYA Outreach and Navigation services aim to create and support positive relationships between YYA and adult allies, enhancing the possibility of accessing necessary services and supports for permanent housing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Locate, identify, and build relationships with youth and young adult families experiencing homelessness.
  • Engage and provide immediate support through linkage to shelters, long-term housing, and employment-based resources.
  • Navigate and connect participants to various housing resources, supporting their successful integration into housing outcomes.
  • Support youth who have been linked to housing, navigating the setting, relationships with landlords and tenants, and responsibilities with the Housing Authority.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, liberal arts, or a related healthcare field preferred.
  • Work history in the homeless field also considered in lieu of a BA.
  • Non-judgmental, developmentally appropriate, strengths-based, individualized approach.
  • Understanding of TAY and YYA best practices and willingness to incorporate Sycamores' philosophy into practice.
  • Experience working with homeless individuals/YYA preferred.
  • Maintains all required licenses and certifications.
  • Valid California Driver License and a driving record acceptable to the Agency's insurance carrier.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent driving to various work site locations/areas.
  • Frequent/continuous sitting as well as frequent standing/walking.
  • Continuous use of bilateral upper extremities in fine motor activities requiring fingering, grasping, and forward reaching between waist and chest level.
  • Occasional/intermittent reaching at or above shoulder level.
  • Occasional/intermittent bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling, twisting, and climbing.
  • Occasional/intermittent lifting and carrying objects/equipment weighing 50 pounds or more.
