Our Trauma/Surgical ICU is a 28-bed critical care unit that specializes in the care of traumatically injured patients or those undergoing complex surgeries requiring close monitoring and care. Our team of experienced nurses, critical care technicians, and trauma surgeons work together to provide high-quality care to our patients.
Job Summary
We are seeking a Critical Care Technician PRN to join our team in the Trauma/Surgical ICU. The successful candidate will assist with patients' activities of daily living and plan of care, communicate with and support the healthcare team, patients, and/or patient's family or significant other(s), and maintain and demonstrate high standards of professional ethics.
The ideal candidate will have an active EMT certification and 0-2 years of experience in a similar role. A successful completion of an unlicensed healthcare provider/technician program and completion of at least one fundamental nursing course in an accredited RN program are also required.
Responsibilities
The Critical Care Technician PRN will be responsible for:
- Supporting the activities of daily living to include bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting/hygiene, and assisting with mobility and transport.
- Performing technical duties as directed by the RN, such as phlebotomy, vital signs, point of care testing, EKGs, Foley catheter care specific to the population served and documents appropriately.
- Identifying and communicating changes in patient's status to the RN and responding appropriately.
- Reinforcing education of patient and family/responsible party regarding individual care needs and safety issues.
- Participating in Cooper patient satisfaction initiatives and goals.
- Completing annual unit-specific competencies by specified due date.
- Attending Staff Meetings when available for documents review of staff meeting minutes.
- Assisting in admission, transfers, and discharges of patients to and from the unit.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
- An active EMT certification.
- 0-2 years of experience in a similar role.
- A successful completion of an unlicensed healthcare provider/technician program.
- Completion of at least one fundamental nursing course in an accredited RN program.
AHA Basic Life Support certification is required.
Skills include communication, successful phlebotomy/EKG competency, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Work Schedule
The Critical Care Technician PRN will work PRN days, 7a-7p.
