We are currently seeking an Engineering Lead to join our team in a hybrid capacity. This role demands a strong foundation in mechanical engineering disciplines, including fluid dynamics and hydraulics, coupled with manufacturing expertise in areas such as castings, machining, and injection molding. Familiarity with electronics and sensor integration is also essential. The successful candidate will engage in engineering analysis, prototyping, and experimental work to facilitate new product development and production, all while upholding rigorous quality standards. You will be expected to leverage, enhance, and advocate for best practices, including DFMEA, GD&T, FEA, and mold flow analysis. Furthermore, you will develop specifications and proposals, leading both internal engineering teams and external design partners to drive critical projects that contribute to Sloan's ongoing growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Explore and assess new technologies for potential application in future products.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate across all organizational levels, both verbally and in writing.
- Coordinate engineering efforts with partners and design sites.
- Contribute to the establishment of design standards throughout the organization.
- Prepare comprehensive documentation for designs, including drawings, inspection criteria, calibration procedures, engineering reports, and work instructions.
- Plan and execute component and system-level experiments to validate engineering designs against product requirements.
- Design innovative R&D tests.
- Analyze and address design challenges and quality concerns through robust engineering analysis, including FEA and CFD, tolerance analysis, statistical methods, and design of experiments.
- Collaborate in the design of new products within a team-oriented, stage-gate development framework alongside the PMO.
- Document and design components and complex assemblies, establishing engineering specifications and material requirements as necessary. Process Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
- Adhere to established document control protocols.
- Lead and supervise other engineers on significant development projects, assigning tasks and monitoring progress.
- Guide junior engineers in processes and problem-solving techniques.
- May hold direct managerial responsibilities for a small team of engineers.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in directing engineers within a project setting.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in designing electro-mechanical products and systems that comply with applicable agency standards.
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering.
- Proven ability to utilize statistics to inform engineering decisions.
- Proficiency in CREO, Geometric Design & Tolerance methodologies, Finite Element Analysis, mold flow analysis, and Design for Manufacturing principles.
- Understanding of verification and validation concepts in design.
- Demonstrated design experience with machined, cast, and injection molded components.
- Familiarity with a variety of materials, including brass, ceramics, and plastics.
- Strong analytical capabilities in hydraulics, fluidics, mechanisms, dynamics, and tolerance analysis.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
- Experience in developing plumbing, valve, or water handling products, or other commercial building products is advantageous. Experience in designing environmentally friendly products is highly valued.
- Fluid dynamics simulation experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of statistical analysis and familiarity with Six Sigma principles.
