About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and organized Medical Assistant/Patient Service Representative to join our team at Summit Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and administrative support to our physicians and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians and APNs/PA with patient care, patient flow, procedures, and clerical duties.
  • Greet patients and families, schedule appointments and tests, and collect payments from patients.
  • Post payments to the correct accounts, open and close batches daily, and prepare bank deposit bags.
  • Answer phone calls promptly, take accurate messages, and deliver them to the appropriate individual.
  • Provide referrals and consult orders in a timely manner.
  • Schedule and enter diagnostic tests and procedures into the order management system.
  • Obtain, verify, and update patient information, including demographics, insurance, and HIPAA forms.
  • Prepare examination rooms, escort patients, and clean examination rooms after visits.
  • Ensure proper preparation for patient visits and prepare pertinent information needed for patient visits.
  • Schedule appointments accurately and follow departmental guidelines.
  • Collect lab specimens according to departmental guidelines and accurately label specimens.
  • Complete necessary forms for patients and obtain vital signs, including BP, temp, pulse, height, and weight.
  • Document patient information accurately in the EHR system.
  • Work cooperatively with PCR and clinical staff to ensure timely pre-authorizations.
  • Review and reconcile medication lists and document allergies in the EHR system.
  • Reconcile encounters daily and accurately, according to policy guidelines.
  • Use tasking appropriately and communicate with the Office Supervisor/Manager promptly.
  • Maintain an organized sample closet and discard outdated medication.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED; Bachelor's/Associate Degree preferred.
  • Medical Assistant Certification required; obtain and maintain certification through SMG's program within 4 months of hire.
  • MA/PSR work experience preferred.
  • Must obtain BLS within 60 days of hire.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to be a team player, deal with difficult personalities, and organize multiple tasks in a timely manner.
  • Basic proficiency in computer use and knowledge of medical office terminology preferred.
