Job Overview:

This position involves advanced technical responsibilities in integrating cybersecurity measures into essential operational systems, ensuring the safety of ITS connected vehicle (CV) and autonomous vehicle (AV) initiatives. The specialist will engage in the design, development, implementation, and integration of systems and their components. This role is pivotal in guaranteeing that the architecture and design of both development and operational systems are secure and effective. Additionally, the specialist will contribute to innovative strategies aimed at enhancing cybersecurity risk management within the Traffic Operations department, thereby minimizing potential disruptions to critical information infrastructure.

Employees in this classification report to a designated supervisor and operate under general oversight. This role is distinguished by its specialized technical skills necessary for resolving complex automated systems, with a strong emphasis on cybersecurity.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Functions:

  • Act as the subject matter expert on departmental Cybersecurity policies, regulations, and standards.
  • Assist in the analysis, design, implementation, and management of automated systems.
  • Conduct security assessments and vulnerability analyses related to hardware, software, and coding languages.
  • Utilize specialized software applications for complex departmental systems, including system generation and compilers.
  • Evaluate hardware and software requirements, including training and documentation needs.
  • Identify, prioritize, and resolve issues related to data, account administration, and applications.
  • Plan and implement modifications to the computer operating system.
  • Assist in the recovery of automated system failures.
  • Review and recommend emerging technologies and advanced tools related to cybersecurity.
  • Ensure high levels of security by applying necessary patches and implementing network security protocols.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • May require on-call duties.
  • May involve after-hours and weekend support.
  • May serve as a team leader.
  • May enforce departmental policies as necessary.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform essential functions satisfactorily. Below are the required qualifications:

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, data management, or a related field, along with two years of relevant experience, or an Associate degree with four to six years of relevant experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.

Active certification in database, network, or security management may substitute for up to one year of experience.

Certifications:

Valid driver’s license required. Certification in network or security management is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong understanding of computer operating systems, databases, programming techniques, and cybersecurity policies. Proven ability to manage multiple projects effectively and communicate clearly with team members and the public.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

This role is primarily sedentary, requiring prolonged periods of sitting. Local travel may be necessary, and after-hours work may be required.
