Position Overview
The Division of Genetic, Genomic, and Metabolic Disorders at Tenet Healthcare is actively seeking a dedicated full-time MD/DO Medical Biochemical Geneticist.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to tailor their clinical, research, and leadership responsibilities based on their interests and expertise. Primary clinical duties will encompass the diagnosis and management of patients with inborn errors of metabolism, particularly those identified through state newborn screening initiatives. Our division serves as a vital coordinating and referral center for infants suspected of having metabolic disorders, including inborn errors of metabolism and lysosomal storage disorders. The metabolic team is composed of a board-certified Medical Biochemical Geneticist, a genetic counselor, three dietitians, three nurses, and two nurse practitioners, along with part-time support from a psychologist. The clinical genetics team includes six genetic counselors, two genetic counselor assistants, one nurse practitioner, and two board-certified Clinical Geneticists.
Additional responsibilities will involve evaluating and managing patients on the inpatient consultation service, as well as supervising and educating medical students, genetic counseling students, residents, and fellows. There is also the potential for the role of Program Director for the Medical Genetics and Genomics residency, along with the freedom to pursue individual research interests. Academic rank and compensation will be aligned with qualifications and experience, and leadership opportunities within the division are available based on interest and expertise.
About the Division
Our division boasts an active Medical Genetics and Genomics Residency program with four current trainees, complemented by an accredited Genetic Counseling Graduate Program. Additionally, we have an on-site Cytogenetic/Molecular laboratory managed by board-certified laboratory geneticists, enhancing our clinical services.
Candidate Qualifications
- MD or DO degree required
- Board Eligible/Board Certified in Clinical or Medical Biochemical Genetics and Clinical Genetics
- Board Eligible/Board Certified in Pediatrics or Internal Medicine is preferred
- Must be eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan
