Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Dog Care Supervisor, the Dog Care Attendant is tasked with responsibilities in the Dog Care and client support sectors. This role involves maintaining cleanliness and providing essential care for the dogs in the kennel, as well as assisting training teams and clients during instructional sessions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the running, bathing, feeding, exercising, and grooming of dogs in a pack setting.
  • Ensure a safe and enriching environment for dogs in care.
  • Conduct daily cleaning and maintenance of the Canine Development Center.
  • Engage in socialization activities to alleviate stress among dogs.
  • Assist with canine health care and administer medications as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of the Canine Development Center and its equipment.
  • Support the assessment and placement of dogs transitioning from training.
  • Evaluate incoming dogs for training suitability.
  • Train new staff and volunteers on canine care procedures.
  • Assist clients who are blind or visually impaired in caring for their guide dogs.
  • Perform data entry tasks as assigned.
  • Collaborate with the veterinary health department for follow-up care.
  • Facilitate park times and medication management for canines in training.
  • Transport dogs for veterinary appointments as needed.
  • May assist in Breeding and Puppy Care, including caring for puppies and breeding dogs.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Three to six months of relevant experience in dog care is preferred; experience in cleaning and maintenance is a plus.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to build rapport with animals and ensure humane treatment.
  • Flexibility to work any day or shift.
  • Strong multitasking skills and ability to manage workload effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Sound judgment and professional conduct in all interactions.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required for driving duties.
  • Ability to work independently and take direction as needed.
  • Experience working with volunteers is beneficial.
  • Comfortable working with large dogs.
  • Willingness to engage in public relations activities on behalf of the organization.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with colleagues, volunteers, and clients.
Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this position include regular sitting, talking, and hearing, with occasional driving. Frequent reaching and occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching may be required. The ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds is necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
