Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Laborer to join our team at Kwest Group. As a Laborer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe completion of various tasks associated with heavy construction, underground utilities construction, and environmental construction.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the safe completion of tasks associated with heavy construction, underground utilities construction, and environmental construction.
  • Operate small power and hand tools, including tampers, saws, straw blowers, seeders, surveying and measuring devices, concrete tools, pumps, and compressors.
  • Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Trench and backfill excavations and compact and level earth to grade specifications using shovels, picks, rakes, and tampers.
  • Position, align, join, and seal structural components, such as concrete structures, pipe, and culverts.
  • Accurately measure, mark, and record openings and distances as may be required for record drawings.
  • Load, unload, and identify materials and tools and distribute them to the appropriate location.
  • Set up traffic control zones, barricades, signage, ramps, and other temporary safety devices as deemed necessary by the site safety plan.
  • Assist in seed bed preparation and mulching of seeded areas by means of engine-powered straw blowers or by hand if necessary.
  • Labors to assist in the installation of erosion control measures on environmental projects.
  • Perform/assist with SWPPP inspections as required.
  • Operate utility tractor, roller compactor, skid steer, off-road dump truck.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • The average work week would consist of 5 ten-hour days, but schedule will be dictated by project.
  • Must be able to work out of town, sometimes out of state, and for lengths of time, such as the job would.
  • A high school diploma, GED, or trade school certificate is preferred.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Working knowledge of construction site safety, truck maintenance, and road safety regulations.
  • Will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, and if offered a position, any random drug screening if randomly.
  • Must attend all mandatory safety meetings and participate in discussions with the work crew and any safety personnel on.
  • Must be over 18 to operate power-driven saws including chain saws, woodchippers, abrasive cutting disks, or other power-driven equipment, or to perform excavating operations.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

  • Travel from site to site will be required.
  • Work environment will normally be an active construction site. Exposure to dust, noise, high heat, extreme cold, and rain should be expected.
  • Team member must be physically able to perform repetitive motion and heavy lifting, as described below.
  • Must be able to maintain effective audio and visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned.
  • Must wear all employer-mandated personal protective equipment, including hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, safety vests, and safety-toed work boots.
