About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Specialty Technician to join our team at Animal Emergency & Specialty Center (AESC). As a key member of our specialty services team, you will provide exceptional patient care and support to our doctors and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support all specialty services where needed, providing history, vitals, and concerns to doctors to assist in timely and appropriate patient management.
  • Work with other specialty department technicians and assistants to perform diagnostics, execute treatment plans, assist with surgeries, and monitor anesthesia.
  • Communicate medical updates, financials, and treatment plans to owners as necessary.
  • Facilitate patient care of outpatient appointments for specialty departments, consulting and rechecking as needed.
  • Perform IV, IM, and SQ injections, IV catheter placements, and advanced veterinary technician skills, including arterial catheter placement, epidural administration, and splint placements.
  • Assist with all types of surgery, anesthesia, and other procedures as needed.
  • Participate in surgery team responsibilities, setting up and turning over Operating Rooms, preparing exam rooms and instruments, completing daily safety and cleaning duties.
  • Administer medication and manage/monitor patients during surgical procedures, including pre and post-op care and anesthesia recovery.
  • Perform and assist with all aspects of animal restraint for exams and procedures.
  • Utilize Ezyvet and Smartflow for documentation of patient care.
  • Communicate with clients, including financial estimates and collecting payment.
  • Interface with and assist other departments within the hospital as needed.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 1 year of animal experience required.
  • At least 2 years of anesthesia experience required.
  • Veterinary Technician Certification/Registration required.

  • Strong technical skills to provide excellent and efficient patient care.
  • Ability to multitask and anticipate needs.
  • Excellent communication skills in all areas, including clients, staff, and leadership.
  • Great work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Ability to adhere to strict attendance policies.
  • Ability to handle fluctuation caseload and emergency situations.
Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee will encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work environment is predominantly indoors with occasional outdoor exposure when walking patients.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals related to veterinary medicine.
