Instrument/Electrical Technician Job Description

At Jacobs, we're seeking a highly skilled Instrument/Electrical Technician to join our team at NASA Langley Research Center. As an Apprentice, you'll have the opportunity to work on challenging projects and develop your skills in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain instrument/electrical systems/equipment in support of wind tunnels at NASA LaRC safely, effectively, and efficiently.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures and perform all work according to existing policies and procedures while maintaining a high standard of quality and workmanship.
  • Collaborate with a team to achieve project goals and objectives.
Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Desire to learn more in the STEM fields outside of the typical classroom setting, with hands-on training, mentoring, and instruction.
Work Environment:

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment with a mix of office and industrial settings. The position requires the ability to work in a team atmosphere and to maintain a high level of professionalism and safety awareness.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must have sufficient mobility to enter confined spaces, crawl into or onto various assemblies while maintaining a clear vision of safety.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist, and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs.
Equipment and Machines:
  • Facility operations display/keyboards/mechanical/electrical control/HMI, standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.).
  • Operate appropriate equipment; devices, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products, such as industrial equipment and machinery, power equipment, servo systems, machine tools, and measuring instruments.
Attendance:
  • Regular attendance is mandatory.
  • Potential for overtime/work outside normal schedule required.
