Position Overview

Atlantic Health System is looking for a Per Diem Nutritional Support Specialist to join our Food Service Department. This role involves working flexible hours, including weekends.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Gather and organize suitable menus for designated patient floors in accordance with dietary orders. Ensure that the menu aligns with the specifications in the Care Manager system. (b) Assist patients in completing their menu selections. (c) Liaise with nursing staff on the assigned units regarding patient requests, late meal deliveries, and necessary supplies.
  • Record the delivery of late meals and new orders to manage food expenses. (e) Address inquiries with Registered Dietitians.
  • Exhibit a courteous and efficient demeanor towards customers, colleagues, and clients. Uphold departmental standards as well as those mandated by the Hospital, the Department of Health, and JCAHO. Guide patients through Policies and Procedures. Evaluate patients' acceptance and tolerance of food during meals and their overall satisfaction with the service. Relay essential information to Dietitians and the Clinical Nutrition Coordinator, especially regarding patients identified as being at nutritional risk due to challenges with oral intake or dietary consistency. Compile a detailed list of special food requests and communicate effectively with food production staff.
  • Timely delivery of meals to patients, ensuring proper identification using patient identifiers. Confirm NPO lists with the units. Assist with meal setup as needed.
  • Prepare cold food items according to specifications, ensuring they are visually appealing and properly labeled. Deliver food supplies to assigned units and maintain stock levels. Document daily supplies delivered to monitor food costs.
  • Participate in all training sessions and in-services as required, applying the knowledge gained to enhance work performance. Assist in mentoring and training new staff as part of leadership development. Follow all established systems and training programs to ensure a safe environment for oneself, coworkers, visitors, and other staff members. Report any unsafe conditions, such as damaged equipment or unsanitary environments, to supervisors and management. Adhere to all OSHA regulations and other local, state, and federal guidelines. Maintain compliance with all Federal, State, and local regulations, including the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Consistently maintain cleanliness during shifts, adhering to the cleaning schedule and practicing a clean-as-you-go approach. Be knowledgeable about the proper use of cleaning chemicals and the location and use of MSDS sheets.
Qualifications

Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Experience Requirements:
  • Prior experience in food service is preferred.
  • To ensure a safe environment for our patients, candidates must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs is required.
