Key Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Oversee the children, classroom, and all program activities.
  2. Adhere to all procedures and standards set by the law or the Y; implement ADA accommodations where necessary; maintain the program site, equipment, and required program documentation.
  3. Engage children through purposeful programming; develop lesson plans aimed at achieving program objectives.
  4. Establish a positive rapport and shared interests with all youth.
  5. Facilitate opportunities for youth to lead, solve problems, and make choices within the program while providing daily chances for reflection on their experiences.
  6. Conduct ongoing, systematic observations and assessments of each child.
  7. Encourage and maintain open communication with parents and caregivers regarding their child's needs and progress; conduct conferences; connect families to the Y.
  8. Participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and training sessions.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned.
  10. Ability to lift children weighing up to 40lbs.

Typical Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Meets educational and experience requirements established by state law and/or the Y.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are mandatory.
  • Child Abuse Prevention training must be completed within 30 days of hire.
  • Must meet minimum age requirements as per state law and/or the Y.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting is preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate activities.
  • Experience with diverse populations is beneficial.
  • Ability to cultivate positive, authentic relationships with individuals from various backgrounds.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
