We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Building Maintenance Specialist to join our team at the McHenry Public Library District. As a key member of our facilities operations team, you will be responsible for maintaining the interior and exterior of our library buildings, parking lots, and grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment for our patrons and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Cleaning and Maintenance: Clean all areas of the library facility's interior and exterior, including offices, public areas, and restrooms, on a regular basis.
- Event Setup and Tear Down: Set up, arrange, and remove items such as tables, chairs, and podiums for programs and meetings.
- Groundskeeping: Perform general groundskeeping work, including snow removal and ice removal, application of salt, landscaping, mowing, trimming, and other duties to maintain the safety and appearance of the facility and grounds.
- Building Maintenance and Repair: Perform building maintenance, repair, and/or alteration projects, including minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, and electrical repairs.
- Inventory Management: Assist in maintaining the inventory and proper storage of custodial supplies and equipment.
- Emergency Response: Respond to facility emergencies, such as water leaks or biohazard clean up, and report any issues to the department manager or PIC.
- Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
- Experience: Two (2) years of custodial and maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of technical training, experience, or education.
- Skills: Strong communication and listening skills, knowledge of cleaning methods and chemicals, and ability to safely operate building trades tools and equipment.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift or move up to 75 pounds and push or pull carts up to 250 pounds.
- Work Environment: Work in conditions typical of maintenance and mechanical rooms, including the presence of dust, dirt, chemicals, grease, oil, solvents, fumes, electrical current, water, and waste products.
- Physical Demands: Ability to climb interior and exterior ladders to perform general maintenance.
