The Staff Process Engineer is a pivotal role within the Process Engineering team, responsible for delivering comprehensive technical assessments of process challenges to enhance the safety, efficiency, and operational performance of refinery activities. This position will significantly influence the Engineering and Technical Service team’s strategic objectives and will be instrumental in mentoring and developing other Unit Process Engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert guidance to leadership on technical and strategic issues, facilitating informed business decisions.
  • Foster team success by exemplifying a culture of learning, sharing insights, and enhancing capabilities.
  • Collaborate across various functions and external networks to leverage subject matter expertise.
  • Deliver complex engineering solutions to meet performance targets.
  • Apply scientific principles to evaluations, maintaining focus despite business pressures.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams and offer recommendations to senior management.
  • Conduct Root Cause Investigations for incidents related to Process Safety, Availability, and Quality.
  • Assist in managing abnormal plant operations, including start-up and shutdown processes.
  • Support the standardization of Process Modeling across the site.
  • Integrate lessons learned into operational updates and future improvement initiatives.
  • Engage with Cenovus’s central Downstream Technical Services and industry networks to adopt best practices.
  • Lead Community of Practice forums and industry technology discussions as necessary.
  • Evaluate new technological advancements and industry trends as part of strategic planning.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering is essential.
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in refining or a related field is required.
  • Broad knowledge of refinery unit operations with experience across multiple process units is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Catalyst systems, including selection and FCC units, is advantageous.
