Department Manager Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Department Manager to join our team at Runnings. As a Department Manager, you will be responsible for leading the sales and merchandising efforts within our Housewares & Food department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct and coordinate the merchandising of assigned products to drive sales and customer satisfaction.
  • Set priorities for the distribution of new merchandise within the assigned department to ensure optimal inventory levels.
  • Ensure adequate inventory levels in all areas of the assigned department to meet customer demand.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with purchases and addressing their needs.
  • Collaborate with Retail Buyers to stay informed about product needs and trends within the assigned department.
  • Train and direct new department team members to ensure a smooth onboarding process.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by ensuring employees and customers follow proper safety protocols when handling merchandise.
Requirements:
  • Ability to work an irregular schedule, including days, nights, and weekends.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a strong focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and long periods of standing.
  • Frequent bending and twisting.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma preferred.
  • Customer Service training and/or experience a plus.
Working Environment and Conditions:
  • Retail store environment with a fast-paced and dynamic atmosphere.
Equipment and Tools:
  • Computer, calculator, cash register-scanner, telephone, fax, copy machine, and computer software and network.
