Aerial Flight Training Expert

Join the Army National Guard Units as an Aerial Flight Training Expert and make a difference in the world of aviation. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert instruction, evaluation, and examination of rated pilots, instructor pilots, and aeroscout observers in flying techniques and methods of instruction, examination, and evaluation.

Your expertise will be invaluable in developing and implementing flight training plans, conducting training flights, and ensuring that our pilots receive the highest level of instruction.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert instruction, evaluation, and examination of rated pilots, instructor pilots, and aeroscout observers in flying techniques and methods of instruction, examination, and evaluation.
  • Develop and implement flight training plans, including conducting training flights and ensuring that pilots receive the highest level of instruction.
  • Conduct refresher, mission, and continuation training in light fixed-wing or utility and observer helicopters.
  • Transport passengers, including dignitaries, to and from various locations.
  • Plan and implement flight training and instruction for rated pilots and instructor pilots in accordance with the Aircrew Training Manual (ATM).
  • Conduct training flights involving operating an aircraft through reference to instruments and use of automatic direction finding equipment such as Omni directional radials, ground control approach, and instrument landing systems on and off Federal airways.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of on-the-job experience in the grade (or a comparable military rank) immediately below the next higher level.
  • Working experience in civilian aviation programs, military service aviation programs (active duty or reserve components), Army National Guard Aviation Support Facilities, or Air National Guard Wing/Operations Groups.
  • GS-13 Level: Qualified Instructor in the UH72 Lakota Helicopter.
  • Specialized experience in operating a specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation, including reviewing and analyzing mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information, filing flight plans, and conducting crew briefings.
  • Airborne experience in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations, surveillance and reconnaissance, and developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.

Education

  • High school diploma or general education development (GED) diploma.
  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs or aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.

Working Conditions

The work environment for this position will be primarily in the Army National Guard Units, with occasional travel to other locations. You will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, with irregular and/or overtime hours possible. You must be able to wear the military uniform and must be willing to work in a variety of weather conditions.


Salary

The estimated salary for this position is $120,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.


This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
