Job Summary

Epsilon Systems is seeking a highly skilled Subsafe Outside Machinist III to join our team. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for repairing, modifying, and overhauling various types of SUBSAFE equipment or systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Report directly to the Production Manager and perform tasks under the supervision of the project Foreman.
  • Adhere to corporate, federal, state, and local safety regulations when setting up or operating machinery.
  • Ensure that all Epsilon Systems personnel protective equipment (PPE) are worn and that damaged PPE is discarded.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices, including turning off machines when not in use and disposing of waste properly.
  • Ensure that all required tools are available for use within two weeks of employment.
  • Follow detailed repair procedures and instructions to complete production operations.
  • Perform as a team member, cooperating with other trades during installation, modification, or repair operations.
  • Diagnose problems and provide cost-effective recommendations for completing repairs.
  • Perform mechanical alignments and ensure control and responsibility for Level-1 material controls.
  • Install, repair, overhaul, or modify mechanical systems and components.
  • Assist with on-site field service for system grooms and checkouts, minor repairs, and system configuration validation.
  • Prepare and install equipment or system alterations.
  • Assist in rigging when necessary.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent, apprenticeship diploma, or additional vocational courses or technical school graduate, with experience in marine mechanical systems in a repair department or shipyard.
  • 5 years' experience and SUBSAFE experience.
  • Knowledge of trade qualifications and performance as a level III Outside Machinist.
  • Ability to understand and perform basic setup, alignment, and operation of various portable tools and hand tools.
  • Working knowledge of shipboard mechanical systems, including repair, installation, and troubleshooting practices.
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret, and work from blueprints, sketches, and specifications.
  • Experience in disassembly, repair, installation, testing, and inspection of ship machinery.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments, including height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, verniers, layout tools, tachometers, thermometers, and vibration indicators.
  • Ability to accurately record readings and measurements and complete documentation, repair, and testing of equipment.
  • Knowledge of rigging equipment and ability to identify damaged and/or worn equipment.
  • Ability to lead rigging teams in medium to larger rigging tasks.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a group with minimal supervision.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain National Security Clearance Level Secret.
  • Ability to obtain access to military and government installations and private shipyards worldwide.
  • Ability to travel.

  • Current security clearance.

  • Requires walking, reaching, sitting, and concentration in the presence of occasional noise.
  • Able to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways, and up and down antenna masts/yardarms.
  • Able to lift, carry, and move objects up to 50 lbs in weight.
  • Must have manual and finger dexterity, able to grasp, manipulate, assemble small objects.
  • Able to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Able to perceive and distinguish normal range of colors.
  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
