About the Role

The Connecticut State Library is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Librarian 1 - State Library to join our team at the Middletown Library Service Center. As a key member of our Division of Library Development, you will play a vital role in providing library circulation services to 270 Connecticut public and school libraries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service to library patrons, responding to their inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Circulate books and other library materials using manual and/or automated systems, ensuring accurate and efficient processing.
  • Perform catalog maintenance activities, including filing, transferring, updating, revising, and withdrawing cards/files, to ensure the accuracy and integrity of our library collections.
  • Retrieve bibliographic information from automated library systems for circulation, interlibrary loan, or copy cataloging purposes, supporting the needs of our patrons and staff.
  • Receive and process orders for print and non-print materials, ensuring timely delivery and accurate processing.
  • Perform and/or supervise the performance of stack maintenance activities, including sorting, shelving, and shifting of material, to maintain a well-organized and accessible library environment.
  • Assist patrons in locating and using library materials and equipment, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Compile statistics on library functions, providing valuable insights and data to inform our library services and operations.
  • Pull and organize library materials for binding, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Enter bibliographic information onto automated library systems, supporting the needs of our patrons and staff.
  • Process interlibrary loan requests by filling those received from other libraries and/or searching for and requesting materials from other libraries.
  • Coordinate with the Collection Development Librarian in maintenance and discoverability of the collection.
