Manufacturing Department Head

Main Responsibilities:
- Ensure a safe working environment for all employees by adhering to local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company guidelines.
- Participate in Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs and activities to maintain a safe and productive work environment.
- Oversee the 3-shift Manufacturing Department, comprising 25+ employees.
- Review production orders and inventory, prepare operational schedules, and coordinate manufacturing activities to meet customer specifications.
- Evaluate individual performance of department personnel and recommend promotions, transfers, discipline, or discharge to management.
- Manage formulas, including updates, and enter new product formulas with manufacturing work instructions.
- Investigate product quality concerns and collaborate with Quality Assurance, Polymer Research Laboratory, and team members to resolve issues.
- Stay up-to-date on department equipment, jobs, and products to provide proper supervision and assistance in addressing non-conforming production.
- Lead the development of new products, production procedures, and equipment improvements.
- Establish and facilitate continuous improvement goals.
- Review quarterly performance reviews on production rates, make adjustments as needed, or work with cross-functional teams to enhance production rates.
- Request approval for new or replacement equipment and recommend research or engineering studies to develop new or improved product manufacturing processes.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent. Other technical degrees will be considered based on prior experience.
- 10+ years of manufacturing experience, preferably in a chemical or process manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years of prior experience managing and leading others.
- Strong people and team building skills.
- Excellent troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills, preferably with Six Sigma and Lean principles.
- Familiarity with large-scale reaction processes, chemical process hazards, and process safety.
- Good customer skills, strategic thinking, and strong technical aptitude.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
- Prior experience in a PSM plant is preferred but not required.
