Job Description

The School Nurse plays a vital role in supporting the physiological, psychological, developmental, and emotional health and safety of our scholars. This position requires a nurse who can deliver care using the nursing process and interact effectively with students, parents, and staff.

Responsibilities:

  1. Use the nursing process by demonstrating appropriate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of student care.
  2. Demonstrate ability and technical skills to perform direct patient care, following established procedures, policies, and standards of care.
  3. Handle emergency situations promptly, precisely, and professionally.
  4. Provide personalized care to ensure student comfort and well-being, considering physiological, developmental, emotional, and psychological needs.
  5. Document all patient care, including primary complaint/injury/reason for visit, nursing intervention, patient response, and care resolution.
  6. Communicate thoroughly and concisely, exercising discretion in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, and guiding regulations.
  7. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for students and staff.
  8. Employ infection control policies and practices as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree required (Associate's degree acceptable if RN licensure acquired).
  • At least 1 year of clinical experience preferred.
  • Prior school nursing experience is an asset.
  • Connecticut State Licensure (RN) required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is necessary.
