Acute Care APRN Fellowship Program

Join U of L Physicians in our Acute Care APRN Fellowship Program, a 12-month training position designed to prepare advanced practice providers for the independent and fast-paced role of an APRN in acute care settings.

Program Overview

The program will include seven required core rotations and 12 weeks of elective time, with a focus on knowledge advancement, professional development, leadership, interprofessional communication, diversity and inclusion, and self-care practice. Fellows will work under the direct supervision of an assigned APP preceptor and physician colleagues, with the goal of developing critical thinking skills and care plan development to progress patients throughout the continuum of the healthcare system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care to an assigned load of patients, performing comprehensive health, social, medical history, and physical assessments.
  • Identify and evaluate health and social disparities influencing patient health and well-being, and develop plans of care that are inclusive of patient preferences, beliefs, and abilities.
  • Order and interpret appropriate labs and tests, while reducing waste and promoting maximum benefit to the patient.
  • Consult with other members of the healthcare team to meet the needs of the patient population, and ensure thorough patient/family education of identified learning needs.
  • Implement plans of care that are appropriate and inclusive of patient preferences, beliefs, and abilities, and function as a patient and family advocate.
Requirements

To be eligible for the Acute Care APRN Fellowship Program, applicants must:

  • Graduate from an accredited Acute Care NP program or a Physicians Assistant/Associate program.
  • Hold an active license to practice in the state of Kentucky.
  • Pass any licensing exams/boards required for practice in the state of Kentucky.
