Position Overview

Compensation: Competitive salary range of $73,000 - $87,000 annually.

Employment Status: Exempt

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Senior Scientist, Protein Science

Role Responsibilities

As a key member of our Protein Science team, you will contribute to enhancing our mammalian protein production capabilities. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and constructing therapeutic molecules as a molecular biologist.
  • Executing mammalian cell transfections with precision and sterile techniques as a cell scientist.
  • Assisting in the purification and characterization of proteins you have engineered as a protein scientist.
Key Duties
  • Conduct molecular biology experiments and create protein expression constructs.
  • Manage cell cultures for optimal protein production.
  • Perform transient transfection experiments utilizing Expi293 or ExpiCHO cells.
  • Prepare transfectant supernatants for subsequent protein purification.
  • Maintain detailed records of protein expression activities in an electronic lab notebook and update the internal protein database.
  • Engage in learning opportunities related to downstream protein characterization and functional assays.
  • Present experimental findings at interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.
QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 2 years of experience in an industrial biotechnology setting, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Proficiency in Gibson Assembly and other molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience in designing and ordering oligonucleotides and gene fragments.
  • Familiarity with construct sequence verification.
  • Understanding of protein production processes in a startup environment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Able to collaborate effectively in dynamic team settings.
  • Self-driven with a passion for interdisciplinary research in a fast-paced atmosphere.
Preferred
  • Experience with transient protein expression at a small to medium scale.
  • Familiarity with ExpiCHO and Expi293 cell culture techniques.
  • Expertise in biolayer interferometry assays using Octet/Gator systems.
  • Knowledge of protein biophysical characterization methods (HPLC, DSF, Bioanalyzer/SDS-PAGE, ELISA, UV280 NanoDrop, etc.).
  • Experience in antibody formatting and optimizing protein expression.
