Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Patient Transport Aide to join our team at Hackensack Meridian Health. As a Patient Transport Aide, you will be responsible for transporting patients and/or specimens throughout the assigned area, ensuring safe handling and timely delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transport patients using wheelchairs and stretcher/bed transports, ensuring safe handling and preventing falls.
  • Communicate effectively with Dispatch, Modality, and Unit teams to notify of receipt, changes, or delays in transport, and completion of tasks.
  • Handle patient support apparatus such as IV pumps and oxygen tanks safely during transport.
  • Remove equipment from service that is unsafe or unclean, and exchange oxygen tanks as needed.
  • Obtain supplies from central supply as requested.
  • Follow established isolation protocols and use personal protective equipment and hand washing techniques.
  • Use two patient identifiers to correctly identify patients.
  • Follow proper protocol for patient expirations.
  • Transport specimens to the laboratory and deliver blood and blood products in a timely manner.
  • Pick up slides for physicians to review from the laboratory as requested.
  • Participate in the use of automated systems to assist with patient throughput.
  • Lift a minimum of 10 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs., and stand for the length of the shift.
  • Identify the needs of the patient population served and modify and deliver care that is specific to those needs.
Requirements
  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Utilize social skills and communicate appropriately to alleviate fears and/or anxiety of the patient and provide the Best Healthcare Experience.
