Position Summary

The Patient Transport Aide plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of patients and specimens throughout the facility. This position requires a focus on patient care and communication to facilitate smooth operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transports patients using wheelchairs and stretchers, prioritizing their well-being to prevent falls.
  • Ensures timely transportation of patients to various units or imaging modalities, while accompanying necessary documentation.
  • Maintains clear communication with Dispatch, Modality, and Unit staff regarding task status, changes, or delays to optimize workflow.
  • Handles patient support equipment, such as IV pumps and oxygen tanks, with care, ensuring safety and cleanliness.
  • Obtains necessary supplies from central supply as required.
  • Adheres to established isolation protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment and proper hand hygiene.
  • Utilizes two patient identifiers to accurately confirm patient identity.
  • Follows appropriate protocols in the event of patient expirations.
  • Transports specimens to the laboratory and delivers blood products promptly, adhering to established guidelines.
  • Collects slides for physician review from the laboratory as needed.
  • Engages with automated systems to assist in patient throughput efficiently.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 10 lbs., push and pull at least 50 lbs., and stand for the duration of the shift.
  • Recognizes and addresses the unique needs of the patient population, tailoring care accordingly (considering age, culture, language, etc.).
  • Assists with environmental responsibilities, including the disposal of recycling and trash, and linen management as assigned.
  • Complies with the standards outlined in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills to alleviate patient anxiety and provide an exceptional healthcare experience.
