Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Patient Transport Aide to join our team at Hackensack Meridian Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for transporting patients and/or specimens safely and efficiently throughout the assigned area.

Responsibilities
  • Transport patients using wheelchairs and stretcher/bed transports, ensuring safe handling to prevent falls.
  • Transport patients to and from units or imaging modalities within expected time frames, bringing patient charts along.
  • Maintain regular communication with Dispatch/Modality/Unit to notify of task receipt, changes, or delays, and completion of tasks.
  • Handle patient support apparatus safely during transport, removing equipment that is unsafe or unclean.
  • Obtain supplies from central supply as requested.
  • Follow established isolation protocol using personal protective equipment and hand washing techniques.
  • Use two patient identifiers to correctly identify patients.
  • Follow protocol for patient expirations.
  • Transport specimens to the laboratory and deliver blood and blood products in a timely manner.
  • Pick up slides for physicians to review from the laboratory as requested.
  • Participate in automated systems to assist with patient throughput.
  • Lift a minimum of 10 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs., and stand for the length of the shift.
  • Identify patient needs and modify care accordingly, communicating with patients, parents, and caregivers at their level.
  • Assist with environmental duties, including recycling and trash disposal, and adhere to cleaning requirements.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Utilize social skills to communicate effectively and alleviate patient fears and anxiety.
