Job Title:
Imaging Technologist

SUMMARY


The Imaging Technologist is responsible for generating clinical diagnostic x-ray images as directed by medical professionals and executing routine diagnostic tasks in compliance with established standards and safety protocols.

To excel in this role, the individual must competently fulfill each responsibility. The qualifications outlined below represent the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for success.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to the following)

  • Create high-quality x-ray images of designated body regions as instructed by the physician or radiologist.
  • Implement appropriate radiation safety measures.
  • Collaborate with the hospital or clinic's electronic medical records (EMR) to generate and finalize exam orders.
  • Coordinate effectively with other departments to enhance patient and staff experiences.
  • Conduct, document, and evaluate quality control (QC) data to make informed decisions regarding results and take necessary actions to ensure accuracy and precision.
  • Uphold a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment inspections, maintaining cleanliness in the work area, and monitoring temperatures in accordance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
  • Exhibit regular attendance, including punctual clocking in and out at scheduled times and minimizing unplanned absences.
  • Maintain clinical proficiency and up-to-date professional knowledge by participating in in-house training and competency assessments, learning new protocols, and undergoing training on new equipment.
  • Assist in transporting patients.
  • Familiarity with Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), including the release and transmission of images.
  • Execute x-ray procedures using portable machines as required by emergency services and nursing units. (Not applicable for clinic imaging technologists)
  • Suggest process enhancements for improved efficiencies.
  • Uphold and promote the organization's values.
  • Notify relevant personnel of departmental supply requirements to ensure uninterrupted testing.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of a JRCERT accredited radiological training program or equivalent, required.
  • Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), required.
  • Active Iowa Radiologic Technologist Permit to Practice, required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, required.
  • Mammography accreditation for designated radiologic technologists.
  • CT accreditation for designated radiologic technologists.
  • MRI accreditation for designated radiologic technologists.
  • DEXA accreditation for designated radiologic technologists.
