UC San Diego is seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Chair of the Department of Family Medicine. As a key member of the School of Medicine, the successful candidate will be responsible for driving academic excellence, advancing research, and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Department of Family Medicine, aligning with the University's mission and goals.
- Develop and implement academic programs, research initiatives, and clinical services that promote excellence and innovation.
- Lead a team of faculty and staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, diversity, and inclusion.
- Build and maintain relationships with external partners, stakeholders, and the broader academic community.
- Manage departmental resources, including budget, personnel, and space, to achieve strategic objectives.
- Earned doctoral or advanced degree from an accredited institution.
- 10+ years of professional, scholarly, and educational accomplishments as a faculty member.
- Board Certification in Family Medicine and a California medical license.
- 5+ years of experience in academic healthcare environments, including education and research initiatives.
- 5+ years of experience analyzing, planning, and implementing strategic initiatives and experiences for an academic unit.
- 3+ years of experience aligning financial, personnel, and space resources to meet operational needs and strategic plans.
- Experience leading a large academic research department with multiple subspecialty divisions.
- Outstanding record with experience as a senior administrator in an academic environment.
- Organizational management experience leading financial, human resources, and space discussions, strategy, and plans.
- Demonstrated leadership in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Successful philanthropic and/or grant generation.
- Proven ability to define areas of concern, strategically identify solutions, and implement updates within targeted timeframes.
- Excellent communications skills and the ability to create a compelling narrative to advance the department.
- Experience working with and supporting a diverse group of faculty, trainees, staff, students, trainees, and stakeholders.
- Experience engaging with external stakeholders and partners to establish and meet strategic goals.
