Job Title: Department Chair

We are seeking an exceptional academic leader to serve as the Department Chair of Biology at Texas State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the department's academic and administrative efforts, fostering a culture of excellence, and promoting the university's mission.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the department's academic programs, including curriculum development, faculty supervision, and student advising.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance the department's research profile, secure external funding, and promote interdisciplinary collaborations.
  • Collaborate with the college leadership team to advance the university's strategic goals and promote a culture of inclusivity and diversity.
  • Supervise and mentor faculty members, promoting their professional growth and development.
  • Represent the department in university-wide initiatives and committees, promoting the department's interests and advancing the university's mission.
Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in biological sciences or a related field.
  • Record of instruction at the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Sustained record of teaching, service, and scholarly achievements consistent with the rank of a tenured professor.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated record of effective academic leadership, including experience in curriculum development, faculty supervision, and strategic planning.
  • Successful record of maintaining a competitively funded research program.
  • Consistent record of advising, supervising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Experience with shared governance among diverse faculty with varying titles, ranks, and program specialties.
