Join Our Team as an Infection Prevention Specialist

As an Infection Prevention Specialist, you will play a critical role in identifying and investigating sources of infection and improving procedures and technologies to prevent future infections throughout the Johns Hopkins Health System.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Infection Prevention program within Howard County Medical Center.
- Implementing the Infection Prevention program in your area of responsibility to drive change.
- Continuously evaluating all policies, procedures, and practices relating to infection prevention and control within the institution to ensure all evidence-based infection prevention practices are implemented, assuring optimum protection for all patients, visitors, and staff.
- Conducting surveillance, providing education, leading performance improvement initiatives, and managing outbreaks and exposures.
- Interacting effectively with personnel in a wide range of hospital and university positions, implementing infection control policies, teaching informally and formally in both small and large groups, and leading unit-based and facility-wide performance improvement efforts.
- Utilizing knowledge of epidemiology, infectious diseases, modes of disease transmission, principles of infection control and prevention, performance improvement, and adult learning methods.
Requirements include:
- 2+ years of related work experience, which includes Infection Control, Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, Health Education, or Public Health.
- Experience as an Infection Preventionist at a hospital is highly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree required in Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, or a related discipline.
- Master's degree in Public Health or a related discipline preferred.
- Ability to obtain Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within 2 years of hire.
