Become a vital member of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections

We are actively looking for Correctional Security Specialists for various roles across the State of Oklahoma.

Applicants should be prepared to participate in an extensive training program that includes an immersive live-in academy experience.

Upon successful completion of the training, candidates may qualify for a financial incentive:

  • $2,000 for positions at designated correctional facilities
  • $1,000 for roles at other facilities within the department

Embark on your training journey, where accommodations and meals will be provided.

Core Responsibilities:

As a Correctional Security Specialist, your primary duty will be to ensure the safety, order, and management of inmates within a state adult correctional institution.

Key Duties Include:

  • Ensuring security and oversight of inmates in various environments
  • Supervising inmate work groups and facilitating their transportation to work locations
  • Conducting patrols and managing inmate movements throughout the facility
  • Upholding order and discipline during various programs and activities
  • Utilizing security technology and performing searches for prohibited items
  • Documenting incidents and events through detailed reports
  • Reacting to emergencies, including disturbances and fire situations

Position Levels:

Correctional Security Specialist:

Entry-level role involving training in security and custody responsibilities, overseeing inmates in diverse activities and settings.

Corporal:

Advanced role tasked with maintaining discipline and security among the inmate population.

Qualifications and Experience:

Correctional Security Specialist: Minimum age requirement of 20, completion of a training program sanctioned by the Department of Corrections.

Corporal: Certification as a Correctional Officer along with a minimum of 12 months of experience in correctional or security-related roles.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Includes proficiency in English, mathematics, report writing, firearms handling, restraint techniques, self-defense, and understanding inmate behavior.

Ability to assess situations, respond effectively in emergencies, adhere to instructions, communicate clearly, and resolve conflicts.

Additional Requirements:

Candidates must successfully complete assessments and evaluations, undergo physical health screenings, hold a valid driver's license, and be open to working various shifts.

Selected individuals may be designated as peace officers and must fulfill further training and screening prerequisites.
