Job Description

Position Overview: The MIECHV Home Visitor plays a crucial role in delivering early childhood education and support services to families through a home-based approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  7. Encourage parental involvement in curriculum planning and program governance.
  8. Monitor children's health and provide guidance on medical, dental, mental health, and nutritional needs.
  9. Assist families with crisis management and connect them to community resources.
  10. Transport families to medical appointments and socialization events when necessary.
  11. Maintain accurate documentation of home visits and related activities.
  12. Ensure confidentiality of family records and sensitive information.
  13. Engage in supervision and training opportunities to enhance professional skills.
  14. Understand and adhere to mandated reporting responsibilities regarding child abuse and neglect.
  15. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Associate's degree in child development, education, social sciences, or a related field is preferred.
  2. Minimum of one year of experience working with children and families in a human services context.
  3. Commitment to obtaining a Family Development Credential within the first year of employment.
  4. Participation in relevant training opportunities.
  5. Compliance with background screening, immunization, and health examination requirements as mandated by state licensing and program standards.
  6. Ability to problem-solve and manage crises while working with diverse families from low-income backgrounds.
  7. Empathetic, nonjudgmental, and respectful approach to family engagement.
  8. Willingness to work primarily in high-risk community settings.
  9. Flexibility in scheduling and task management.
  10. Valid chauffeur's license.

Additional Requirements:

Personal attributes such as emotional maturity, cooperation with program standards, respect for individuals, flexibility, patience, and good personal hygiene are essential. Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to observe children effectively are required. The role demands the capacity to perform under pressure, including during emergencies.

Working Conditions:

Potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or communicable diseases. Responsibilities may involve travel on various road types while transporting children. Physical demands include lifting up to 55 pounds, frequent bending, kneeling, and the ability to remain active for extended periods.
